Since opening the doors to Inspire Cowork back in 2015, I have learned a lot about the importance of working in a collaborative environment and the benefits for small businesses, entrepreneurs, and freelancers alike to work in a positive space.

I have many reasons why I believe a coworking space is a place to be for a business starting out or the next step from the home office to an office space, but I will keep it to 10 points.

Human connection is good for business

The power of technology never ceases to amaze me. Working in the tech industry, I feel that I am very connected to the tech world and every day there is something new that I am either intrigued or fascinated by. For many businesses and entrepreneurs, it’s becoming the norm to run an entire business remotely. This can be great on many levels, although it can also be a double edge sword. For the benefits you get on one side, you can lose on the other. At a human level, these types of businesses can be very lonely and as a result, can be restricted by lack of creativity and innovation. That human connection allows for business owners to think outside the box, run their ideas past like-minded people or simply have a good laugh along the way.

Avoid a lengthy commute

Is it just me, or has the commute to work almost doubled since 10 years ago? The roads are definitely busier and the public transport system is in complete overdrive. Due to the consistent increase in rental/property prices close to the CBD and the surrounding areas, people are having to live much further away to be able to afford a place to live. This has put a lot of pressure on the already overloaded road and public transport infrastructure.I have to travel into North Sydney 3 times a week, I was able to negotiate in my contract that I’ll work remotely for 2 days out the week. I work out of Inspire Cowork which works perfectly for me. It’s barely a 2-minute commute to work, and I feel much more relaxed when I reach the office. We have over 50 businesses in the space which allows me to collaborate with like-minded people who are in varying industries. The majority of the members live in the Sutherland Shire so their commute to work is also short, this brings a sense of calm and a stress-free environment as most people don’t have the stress of the commute before they reach the office.

Take advantage of the sharing economy

Every morning we wake up and rarely have a second thought on how the sharing economy has transformed our lives. Whether we used an Uber to get home last night, or an Airbnb for a quick weekend getaway, the shared economy has become instrumental in our lives. For entrepreneurs, small business owners and innovative start-ups, it’s a really exciting time. Working in an environment where like-minded entrepreneurs share their knowledge, expertise and insights give so much value to your business.

Collaboration is key

Working in a coworking space gives you the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded people. It allows you to push the boundaries, try new things and challenge yourself and your business into thinking differently. Working in an office space which boasts over 50 businesses allows me to collaborate with people within different industries that I never thought would be possible. It brings two worlds together and allows for the creative juices to prosper.

Increase your networks

Networking is a powerful tool. It leaves you feeling inspired and motivated by the people you meet along the way. It provides incredible business opportunities and can add so much insight and value to your business. Working out of a collaborative coworking space allows you to meet with people who you wouldn’t necessarily be in the same circles with. It can open doors which you never deemed possible. As the old saying goes “it’s who you know, not what you know”.

Bottomless coffee

Let’s face it! Who doesn’t love a good caffeine fix? An average cup of coffee is about $3.00 in Sydney. Imagine how much money you save by having café quality coffee straight from your workplace included in your monthly membership fee. Additionally, at Inspire Cowork, you have access to a number of meeting rooms so instead of taking your clients to the cafe down the road, you can bring them to a professional workspace.

Low start-up cost

Starting your own business isn’t easy or cheap. A coworking space offers people who are looking to leave the home office a chance to work in a fully equipped office space without all the overhead costs of setting up their own office. Finding the right coworking space to suit your business needs is vital. There are many coworking models out there, some more flexible than others. I suggest that before you sign up to any coworking space, you understand what is included in your monthly fee and ensure you understand whether there is a cancellation period or bond which needs to be paid.

Space and flexibility to grow your team

With many businesses, there are always ups and downs. With those tumultuous times comes the increase and decrease of staff. Additionally, depending on the business that you’re running, you may require casual staff over a certain period of time to help with your peak demand. A coworking space gives you the flexibility to increase the number of desks you require. At Inspire Cowork, we understand the stress of business and we like to think we can take some of that stress away by offering no cancellation fees or bonds. If over December you require 3 new people to help with your workload, you can increase by 3 desks for December and bring it back to the 1 desk by January.

Work-life balance

Working out of the home office can have both its positives and negatives. It’s really difficult to turn off from work mode when your office is in the house. By being in a coworking space, it provides you with boundaries between your work and your life. It allows you to get into a working routine where you are able to switch off when you leave the office.

Location Location Location

Being centrally located is a huge benefit to your business. Inspire Cowork is just a few minutes’ walk from Westfield Shopping Centre, Miranda train station, and bus stops and conveniently located to surrounding schools and doctors.

I love working out of the Sutherland Shire’s largest coworking space. There are over 100 businesses in the space and it’s amazing to see how all the different businesses communicate and collaborate with each other. On a daily basis, I find myself intrigued by the level of comfort and confidence which emanates from the members.

Whether the members are working within the coworking space or within a private office, the sense of community is always in the air. I find that working in an environment where you can collaborate and network with like-minded people on a daily basis who are not judging you by the story you are selling, really gives you the experience and confidence to do it when it really counts.

https://2025.inspirecowork.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/3oriOcolIkJRsR7tSw.mp4

Steve Jobs once said, “Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice”. Have you ever noticed how many successful entrepreneurs around the globe share one meticulous trait in common? They all exude confidence. Whether they are speaking at a conference in front of hundreds or even thousands of people, being interviewed in the media or simply engaging with their customers or employees, they all come across highly confident which is incredibly contagious. It makes their audience feel inspired and even confident in their own ability to deliver an exceptional experience, product or service.

As an entrepreneur, whether you’re starting out or already established, a lack of confidence can hold both you and your business back. People believe and are sold in the story you are telling not the product or service in which you a selling. It all starts with self-belief. When an entrepreneur tells their story, they are all extremely passionate about their product or idea. They believe in their ability and the business they are building. This self-belief provides them with the confidence to deal with the many hurdles and hard knocks along the way. They eliminate the excuses and find solutions to the challenges which face them, and seize the moment when opportunities present themselves. So if you are lacking confidence and self-belief, it is difficult to have a pragmatic approach to an issue or challenge and in turn, eliminates the opportunities which present themselves.

I work out of the Sutherland Shire’s largest coworking space, Inspire Cowork. There are over 40 businesses in the space and it’s amazing to see how all the different businesses communicate and collaborate with each other.

Here are my 5 tips on how to increase your confidence:

It’s all in your demeanour:
Your demeanour is the way in which you behave. If your behaviour comes across as a confident person, people will believe that you are confident. It’s in your poise, maintaining eye contact, staying true to yourself, your appearance, your tone and doing what is right.

The confidence formula:
Jeff Thomas has a theory about what it takes to project self-confidence. It’s all in a very simple formula: Confidence = Calm + Certainty. Sounds so easy right? It really is that easy. Stay cool and be certain of yourself, your actions and your words.

Practice:
“Confidence is like a muscle, it gets stronger the more you use it”. If you can practice being the confident version of yourself on a daily basis, you will become that person. It’s all in the saying “fake it till you make it”. A huge benefit of working out of a coworking space allows you to do this on a daily basis without it making you feel uncomfortable are silly. Each time you go to grab a coffee or walk to the balcony for some fresh air, there is a like-minded person present which you can practice on.

Know your why:
People believe and buy into the story you tell not the product or service you are selling. You need to know and understand your purpose. What’s your why? Once you know your purpose and have a powerful story behind your why you will feel and be so much more confident in selling it.

It starts with you:
You need to believe in yourself, your business and the value in which you are creating through your product or service you are selling. You need to harness the self-belief to really take you confidence to the next level.

For many people, confidence can take a lifetime to build, with it taking only a few moments to shatter into a million pieces. It’s so important to eliminate the excuses and have the conviction to power through any situation which may arise. I’ll end with a power quote by Thomas A. Edison “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”

As I sit here staring at my to-do list, I notice that I have been procrastinating for the past half hour. Between social media, email pings and that catchy tune to the song playing in the background, it is so easy to lose focus and become distracted.
As an entrepreneur, procrastination can suck the life out of you and your business if you let it become a habit. As a business owner, it can be difficult as there are so many tedious and time consuming tasks which need to be completed, particularly in the first few years of your start up. To beat the habit of procrastination, it’s all about getting your mind and habits trained to get things done today instead of putting them off for tomorrow which inevitably never seems to come.
I have trained my brain to catch myself when I procrastinate. Here are my 5 top tips to eliminate the unproductivity caused by procrastination.

Write a to-do list:
A “to-do list” gives you direction for the day. It helps with your time management and typically minimises procrastination. It is important to keep your to-do list achievable. There is nothing more de-motivating than having a list filled with items which you know you won’t have time to achieve. It is about the quality of your actionable items over the quantity of them. Be strategic in what you spend your time on.

Do what you dread first thing in the morning:
Once I have prioritized my to-do list, I complete the most important and toughest task first. The longer you have the hardest task or the task which you don’t want to do on your to-do list the more you will procrastinate throughout the day. It’s important to set achievable goals to complete the tasks which you don’t enjoy doing.

Allocate time in the day to get some exercise & eat healthy:
Healthy life = healthy mind. Food is your brains fuel to work. Although an easy and sometimes cheaper option, carbs and fatty foods are a poor choice as it gives you a spike of energy before providing a massive low leaving you lethargic and lose focus. Eating a healthy lunch, with low GI foods, allows your energy levels to be maintained for the rest of the day, providing you with a clear mind and motivation to do what you need to do.As difficult as it can be, you have to take time away from your desk. This provides clarity and kicks up your energy levels. Go for a 10min walk after lunch. Grab some fresh air and come back to your desk refreshed and ready to work.

Make time to have a conversation with someone in the office:
As a start-up business, this may be difficult if you are working from the home office. This is where a coworking space becomes so valuable. It is important for you to get a different perspective on what it is that you’re working on. Having an easy 10min conversation whilst grabbing a coffee or a bite to eat, can spark something in your mind which takes you in a direction which you battled to achieve.

Limit the time you check your phone – particularly your social channels
For some of you, social media is your job, this doesn’t mean checking your own personal social feeds is a good idea during the work day. This is a procrastination tool of note and can be incredibly distracting for your day. I try to limit checking my phone to once an hour. I have my phone on silent all day, so when a message comes through I do not here it. I have my phone calls set to vibration so if it rings and it’s a business call, I don’t miss the call. Being in such a connect world, it is difficult to switch off and break the habit of checking your phone but you and your business will thank you for it later.

There are many blogs out there which talk to the scientific tactics to stop procrastination. These 5 steps have helped me break the habit of being a procrastinator which procrastinates and my business thanks me for being more focused and productive.

Two weeks ago I was reminded of the power of collaboration. On Wednesday we were very fortunate to have Paul and the team from Cut Out Communications shoot our space and create a testimonial video of our members. Speaking over a great cup of locally sourced White Horse Coffee and a delicious Doughnut Time doughnut, I was able to connect with our members and I was invigorated at how inspiring it was to collaborate with the like-minded people within Inspire Cowork.
Feeling inspired by my recent conversations, here are my thoughts on the 5 benefits I believe working in a collaborative coworking space gives your business.

Collaboration provides you with a platform to bounce your ideas off like-minded people:
Working in a coworking space gives you the opportunity to bounce your ideas off people within various professions. There are countless occasions when I am on a certain track and ask for some advice from someone in a completely different industry, and it steers me in an entirely different direction. This, in turn, benefits my work. Bouncing your ideas off like-minded people who have no hidden agendas gives your business that extra edge.

Collaboration creates a sense of community:
Collaborating with like-minded people creates a sense of community instead of the isolation which often comes with growing a business, or freelancing. Often, you feel lonely when working behind a computer all day, particularly when you’re in your home office or in a shared office space. Working in a coworking space eliminates the loneliness and heightens the social aspect of your day to day work life by creating a community of like-minded people.

Collaboration increases your productivity:
Working in an environment which increases the positive effects of a workplace increases your personal productivity. Being surrounded by motivated people, in an environment which encourages productivity and fun, you feel determined to get your work done with minimal procrastination.

Collaboration holds you accountable:
Inspire Cowork boasts over 40 businesses within the space. Working in an environment where you collaborate and connect with the same people almost daily, it’s a great way to be held accountable. If you have asked someone on Monday for advice or assistance whilst grabbing a cup of coffee and you see them again on Wednesday and they ask how you are doing with the business, you want to be able to give some tangible answers.

Collaboration makes you happy:
There is no better feeling than doing something you love every day. To be able to do what you love and be in an engaging environment whilst doing it, you’ve hit the jackpot. Working in a collaborative coworking space ticks all the boxes. Being surrounded by like-minded people boosts your confidence, motivation, and productivity which is a perfect formula for happiness.

If you’re looking to make your own entrepreneurial journey a more fulfilling and productive one, then think about finding a collaborative coworking space which boasts a community of like-minded people. At Inspire Cowork, we place an emphasis on the balance between enabling our members to collaborate and connect, but at the same time taking advantage of being by yourself to run your business. This not only allows for great networking opportunities but also encourages productivity and accountability for your business.

The rise in coworking has gone from strength to strength in recent years. With the rapid growth in start-up businesses, coworking spaces have become the vehicle for start-ups to run a business without all the physical expenses of renting an office space.
With a world average of 4.5 new coworking spaces daily, innovation is the key to success. At Inspire Cowork, we look at ways in which we can create a better experience for our members through our offerings within the space. We found that the only way we can successfully do this is through innovation.
Innovation sets you apart from everyone else. As the saying goes “Innovate or be left behind”. So what do we do? We innovate. Here are 5 reasons why innovation is so important to the success of your business.

Innovating makes you a leader in your industry or profession:
A great innovator that I am sure to come to the mind of most people, is Steve Jobs. What he did with Apple is truly commendable and it all came down to two words: Think Differently. With the world becoming increasingly competitive it is vital for businesses to innovate in order to stay ahead of their competition. By staying ahead of your competition, you will find that your competitors will follow suit. It’s the name of the game. You have your leaders and you have your followers. Be the leader.

Innovate by asking what the user needs and wants:
Being a UX designer by trade, we always look at the user experience. By definition, UX design is the process of enhancing user satisfaction with a product by improving the usability, accessibility, and pleasure provided in the interaction with the product. This is the formula we have used to grow our space. With our recent expansion, our position of being the Sutherland Shire’s largest coworking space has been cemented. Using the process of UX design, we created a space which always had the user experience at the forefront of any decision. With 50 coworking desks and 22 office studios, we had to ensure the space felt intimate for our members but at the same time has a positive atmosphere which encourages productivity, networking, and collaboration. We succeeded in creating a working environment which is professional, productive and practical by questioning the status quo. It was important for us to create an environment for entrepreneurs, freelancers, and the remote workforce, to go to an office space every day and feel comfortable in their workplace.Once your product or service meets the needs and wants of the user, you’ll inevitably find success.

Innovation allows you to disrupt the system:
The ability to disrupt yourself and your brand are crucial. When you look at companies like Uber, Airbnb, and Facebook you automatically think of industry game changers. They came in and completely disrupted their entire industries. By questioning the status quo, It allows your business to move into spheres it would never have imagined possible. It is imperative that your business develops leaders who are driven to disrupt at every stage in the supply chain. By cultivating leaders to do so, encourages them to innovate and take your business to the next level and beyond.

Innovating turns you into a storyteller:
Stories have a profound impact on enabling creativity. With creativity usually comes innovation. Whether it be selling your idea to your boss, your board, or most importantly your customers, you need to be able to sell them the story. It’s an elevator pitch at a heightened level. Being a storyteller will not only help you sell your business, it will be the success of it.

Innovation requires you to be humble and courageous:
Many businesses find innovating difficult as it requires you to let down your guard. By letting go both mentally and emotionally you inherently become vulnerable and that scares many people, as it should. It takes a lot of guts to come up with an idea and go with it. Spending the capital, hours and possibly reputation to make it work. It also can be the meaning of success for your business. Be courageous in your endeavours and remain humble when you succeed.

The holidays are over, kids return to school and business is back in full swing. Welcome to 2017! 2016, for many, was a mega rollercoaster...

The holidays are over, kids return to school and business is back in full swing. Welcome to 2017!
2016, for many, was a mega rollercoaster ride around the entire world. No matter how challenging or amazing your year was, turning the page on a new year is always motivating, as it’s somewhat a fresh start.
For many of us, living the entrepreneur life, you probably took a pause during the holiday festivities, to sit and ponder what you envision for your business in the year to come. The ideas which float out of your mind and onto paper can be audacious, simple or generic, which is all great as you have something to work on. With these ideas, usually, comes the dreaded New Year’s resolution. Did you make yours?
A New Year’s resolution for many is deemed to fail. Many people set personal or business resolutions which are overzealous and ultimately set you up to fail. This is not only demotivating but can be detrimental for your business or personal endeavours.
As you officially start your year back in the office, take a moment to re-evaluate and determine your purpose for the year.
Here are 3 resolutions we think you can keep to, which will make for a successful 2017…

Don’t take things at face value:
In the world of social media, it’s become apparent that we need to question everything. With content flooding our inboxes and social media pages, it is important to know which ones to sift through and which to take seriously. Part of this process is asking questions. For many years, I perceived that asking questions was a sign of idiocy, an inconvenience to class mates or business professionals. I couldn’t have been more wrong. The most inspirational and admired entrepreneurs will be the first to tell you this. The likes of the late Steve Jobs, Sir Richard Branson, Elon Musk & Bill Gates are just a few which come to mind.
As an entrepreneur, the owner, and leader of your business, you tell yourself that you’re the one which needs to have all the answers. The pressure of this results in failing to do what we were taught, that is, if you don’t know something, ask. Whether it’s asking why? Or asking for advice, constructive criticism, or simply what does that mean? It is one of the most valuable traits for an entrepreneur to learn.
A skill to master as an entrepreneur is not to know all the answers, but to know the right questions to find the answers.

Focus on networking:
Networking is by far one of the most important and valuable tools you can use to your advantage. It gives you access to people which can open up huge opportunities to grow your business and your entrepreneurial career. It allows you to identify and meet potential mentors and influencers within your field, gaining access to their knowledge and inner circle.
Whether you’re a start-up business or already well-established, this is where a coworking space can be so powerful. Networking events is a great way to expand your network and increase business opportunities, although, where a coworking space trumps that, is the fact that you have access to many like-minded people on a daily basis at your fingertips.
Inspire Cowork is officially the largest coworking space in the Sutherland Shire. With 50 coworking desks, 22 studio offices, 5 meeting rooms, 5 phone private phone booths, 6 balconies and 2 kitchens, we provide businesses with an all-inclusive package which draws like-minded people to our space. Working alongside 35 businesses, the networking opportunities are endless.

Make time for you:
When the buck starts and stops with you, it’s difficult to switch off. As an entrepreneur, you feel like you’re under constant pressure and always need to be working, pulling those 80-100 hour weeks just to get things done. As a result of this, you slip into a burnout mode and become automated. This is damaging to your business and all the hard work that you’re putting in, for the reason that there is little to no creativity and innovation being formulated. As a result, your business will more than likely slip through the cracks and end in failure.
Making time for yourself is about finding a few hours a week to do something you’re truly passionate about. This could be running, yoga, painting, family time or even shopping. It needs to be something which gives you no stress or pressure and which invigorates your soul. With this, you will find a renewed energy which will flow directly into your business.
2017 already has a positive feel to the year. As you go about setting your resolutions for the year and jumping head first into your business, take the time to evaluate your goals. Don’t be too hard on yourself, make them realistic and achievable. Ensure you find time for you, and remember to have fun!

Research shows that 9 out of 10 businesses fail. This is a very scary and overwhelming statistic for an entrepreneur looking to start their own...

Research shows that 9 out of 10 businesses fail. This is a very scary and overwhelming statistic for an entrepreneur looking to start their own business venture. Neil Patel wrote an interesting article which was featured in Forbes, on what you need to know to be part of that 10% which succeeds. I agree with what Patel says, but I will like to add one more reason:
The start up stayed in their home office for too long before venturing into an office space.
This is where a coworking space for a start up is not only vital to the success of a business but also for an entrepreneurs’ sanity. It’s no secret that an entrepreneurs’ life during the start up phase of a business can be a very lonely road. You eat, sleep, drink your business and typically cancel on friends and family to commit 100% of your time on your new venture.
We all know that starting a business isn’t cheap. You feel like you bleed money with all the start up costs and monthly expenses that you may have overlooked whilst budgeting your capital and operational costs for investment. An entrepreneur just starting out will typically see the expense of hiring a coworking space as a waste of money as they feel that if you have a spare room in the house with wifi already connected, tea and coffee in the cupboard and a fridge full of food, why would you pay to rent a desk at a coworking space? I feel that a coworking space is not only a great solution to a lot of the problems which an entrepreneur faces on a daily basis; but also, both a direct and indirect added value to your business. Here’s why.
At Inspire Cowork, paying a monthly fee for a full-time or part-time membership is more than just your own desk. We offer the following and so much more:
– Ultra fast Wifi
– Conference facilities with TV’s and projectors set up
– Private meeting room hire – 5hrs each month complimentary with a further 50% discount for any addional hours used
– Private meeting rooms are fully equipped with AV presentation facilities & whiteboards
– 3 outdoor balconies with seating available
– A vertical garden break out area
– Fully equipped kitchen with honesty bar
– Complimentary quality tea & coffee
– Gym & showering facilities available
– Undercover parking available
– We are tech-savvy and utilise our very own “Quick Receptionist” which is a hitech service allowing your customers, clients or business prospects a seamless introduction by notifying you via SMS whenever they arrive to your office – the coworking space.
Additionally, we understand the pressures of cash flow and the ups and downs of a start up business. You won’t ever need to sign a lease or bond and you can cancel at any time. No strings attached!
The indirect value you receive by occupying a desk will inevitably outweigh the monthly cost. Inspire Cowork is the largest coworking space in the Sutherland Shire and we are so passionate about the collaborative efforts needed to make your business a success we have created a community of like-minded people to surround yourselves with, to encourage creativity, networking, opportunity and productivity.
By surrounding yourself in an environment which breeds success, you hold yourself accountable to bring out the best in you and as a result your business.
Give us a call for your free trial. Remember – There are no obligations. Stay a day, a week, a month or a year it’s up to you and what your business demands.
We look forward to meeting you.

Starting a local business isn’t an easy feat. If you speak with any local business operator, they will all tell you that your biggest challenge...

Starting a local business isn’t an easy feat. If you speak with any local business operator, they will all tell you that your biggest challenge is reaching and retaining a loyal customer base. In today’s digital world, your online presence is more important than ever before. If you don’t have an online presence, you will find it difficult to reach and engage with your consumers. Where this becomes overwhelming for a start-up, is the time factor. Many start-ups don’t have the money to pay for someone to do their digital marketing, nor do they have the time. It’s a double edged sword.
Being involved in the start-up world for the past decade, I have a learnt a thing or two about this. Here are my top 8 ways of how to promote your local business which won’t cost your business a small fortune.

Advertise:
I have good news for you. You don’t need a large marketing budget to advertise in today’s digital world. Advertising is vital as it plays a crucial role in getting your name out to your potential consumer base. Your advertising campaign will vary depending on your business and who it is that you’re trying to reach. With social media, local newspapers and personal networks, your advertising campaign can cost your business very little for a good return. I do recommend that as your business grows, you increase your marketing budget as this is the key to your businesses success.

Create local awareness
Creating a strong presence in your local community is vital to your success. People won’t support you if they don’t know who you are or what you do. Presence and awareness needs to be gained. You can gain your local awareness by increasing your coverage in local newspapers, social media sites, or industry magazines. You know your industry, find out who it is you need to meet and speak with in the local publications and set up a time to meet with them. Have your purpose, no one will promote you if they don’t believe in you.

Social media presence:
As a local business, social media is your new best friend. With social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube, being used almost religiously, your business needs an engaging presence online. The goal is to provide your followers with something that makes them read, engage and share your post. It’s important to learn who your audience is. Start small, be consistent with your posts and respond to your followers’ comments as soon as possible.

Engage with your customers:
When people personally know who it is behind the business, they enjoy a connection which they would otherwise not have. This creates a loyal customer who wants to support your business. If they see that you care about them, they will always care about you. Your customers will remain loyal to you if your product or service is what you promised and what they expect, and if they see the human element behind a brand.

Engage with your customers through email marketing:
Creating an email campaign is easy and free. Using a service such as MailChimp, allows your local business to create newsletters, automated messages or targeted email campaigns to your consumer base. Having an email marketing campaign, connects you with you customers, which helps you build a community of supporters by keeping your product and business at the front of their minds. Remember, people receive 100’s of emails daily, be strategic when you send your email, ensure you have a capturing subject line, and have a purpose for the email. If you don’t, people will either unsubscribe or automatically delete your email.

Eat, Drink, Sleep your business:
I hate to break it to you, but there is no such thing as a day off when you own your own business. Every opportunity you get; you’re selling your business. You need to really love what you’re doing to succeed in this world.

Support local businesses:
“Love thy neighbour”. Local business owners have an incentive to support other local businesses. Having a sense of community and a strong relationship with other local businesses is great for your consumers to not only see but also feel. It becomes contagious and people will stay loyal to the local area.

Word of Mouth:
Satisfied customers is the best form of marketing for any business. What makes it even better, is the fact that it is absolutely free. Having a quality product or service and then genuinely engaging with your clients is the key to having your customers speak to their family and friends. Additionally, attending school functions, local sporting events, or business networking events also allows your business to be on everyone’s lips. When selling a service or product, you’re inevitably going to have an unhappy customer. Read our previous post on how to successfully handle your unhappy customers.

Owning a coworking space in the Sutherland Shire allows us to engage with start-up businesses on a daily basis. It is so exciting to see how local communities support businesses within their community when a sense of pride is created with the brand.
If you are in or near the Sutherland Shire and want to come and check out Inspire Cowork and have a chat over a cup of coffee, contact us today. We look forward to meeting you.

If given the opportunity to work locally for less money, would you do it? Working local doesn’t always mean less money, but for most of us living in Sydney, we usually know that the top paying jobs are in Sydney’s CBD or in the business industrial parks which are located in areas with limited residential access. This means a long commute for us living in suburbia.
For me, working in North Sydney and living in the Sutherland Shire, my daily commute is a long one. I have been very fortunate to have negotiated with my company to work 3 days a week out of Inspire Cowork, the Sutherland Shire’s largest coworking space, which allows me to benefit from working local.
Here are my top 10 reasons why working local is better.
Reduce your commute to work
We’ve all done it or are doing it! That dreaded daily commute to work. Whether working local saves you 30mins each way or an hour each way, the time at the end of the week adds up very quickly. Reducing your daily commute allows you to have time for you.
Better quality of life
Living closer to work gives you a few extra hours a day at home with family or time to meet up with friends. It allows you to engage in your hobbies, join a local sporting team or use the time to further educate yourself. Setting aside time for yourself, your passions and hobbies makes you more productive in the workplace and happier in life.
Support local businesses
Working local allows you to support your local business. Whether you are buying a sandwich for lunch or stopping off at the grocery store to pick something up for dinner, you are buying local rather than on your commute home.
Save money
We all know that commuting is expensive. Whether you drive to work and have to pay for petrol and the wear and tear on your car, or the cost of public transport, it hurts the pocket. Additionally, as you are waiting for your train or bus there is always the temptation to buy a coffee and a pastry in the morning or a drink or snack on the way home.
Less stress
Commuting can be incredibly stressful. With the work day getting longer, the consistent issues with public transport and the terrible traffic on the roads, working closer to home will alleviate so much pressure and stress. A study conducted by Canada’s University of Waterloo discovered a direct link between your commute time and well-being. It was found that commute lengths are linked to a sense of time pressure. People who spend the most time on the road experience higher levels of stress as they constantly feel hurried and out of time.
Fitness
If you work local and close enough to bike, walk or run to work, it gives you a great opportunity to get your workout in before and after work. With this, not only do you gain your fitness, you also save money. You will arrive at work already mentally stimulated and your productivity will sky rocket. You will get home relaxed as you have time to de-stress and put your mind at ease before walking through the front door.
More sleep
If you’re anything like me, I need my sleep to function. When I commute to the office I need to be up before the crack of dawn to be at the train station before 7:00am to make it to the office by 8:30am. When I work from the coworking space I only need to wake up at 8:00am to make it to the office by 8:30am. Depending on the kids, this usually gives me an extra 2 hours of sleep in the morning, or an extra 2 hours with the kids.
When I have enough sleep I find that I am more productive, much more creative, my decision making skills are on point and my concentration is sharp.
Flexibility
Working close to home allows you to get things done in your personal life. Whether you decide to go before work, on your lunch break or after work, you have the opportunity to visit your local doctor, shopping centre or bank etc. It also allows you to drop your kids off to school, or if you forgot something at home you can quickly race back to pick it up.
Home in time for dinner
For those of you with kids, you know that it’s not often you get to be home to sit at the dinner table with them and enjoy a meal. I’m very fortunate that when I work from the coworking space, I am able to do this. When working from the office, if I’m lucky to leave by 5:00pm I only get home by 7:00pm. Dinner then gets pushed back till about 8:00pm.
Have a routine
Having a routine is so vital for your mental stamina. It provides you with structure, creates positive habits and increases your efficiency. It is important that your routine isn’t only getting up for work, commuting to work, working, commute home from work, eat dinner and go to bed. This has an adverse effect of what a routine should bring to your life. A routine which has a positive impact on all aspects of your life is important to your overall well-being.
Are you ready to quite the daily commute? Get in touch and I’ll share the steps you need to take to work remote.

With the increased demand and popularity of coworking spaces, there has been quite a lot of confusion within the market of what the difference is between private office space, hot desking and coworking. We are here to clear things up.

Coworking Spaces:

Coworking is all about growing your community
Coworking spaces come in all shapes and sizes. What they all have in common is the emphasis on collaboration and networking. It is all about fostering your community and creating business opportunities through new networks.

Creating a positive working environment
Coworking is centred around creating a working environment which supports collaboration, openness, knowledge sharing, networking, innovation, and accountability. It is a place where entrepreneurs and freelancers come to work for themselves but not by themselves.

Your own desk
At a coworking space, you have your own dedicated desk. You set up your desk the way you like it and that’s the way it’ll stay. No need to pack up your belongings at the end of the day and saves you the time in the morning to get straight back into your work.

Work with like-minded people
When you’re starting up a business, it’s always difficult to find the time to interact with friends or family. A coworking space allows you to be immersed in an environment where you meet and engage with like-minded people who can help offer fresh eyes or feedback to a business idea or problem.

Better internet connection
You will find that coworking spaces typically have a faster internet connection to your normal corporate office building. The use of the internet is part of everyone’s daily work routine and the quicker it is, the more productive you become. With many coworking spaces disrupting the status quo with the upload and download speeds, it provides a great space for businesses to work from

Hotdesking:

Hotdesking is a workspace sharing system
Hotdesking is used in activity-based working to allow groups of people to form and work together on projects then disband as the project ends.

Drop in for a day
If you are travelling interstate, and your time is on the road but just need a space to get some work done. Hotdesking gives the flexibility to share spaces.

Hotdesking at your company vs hotdesking as a service
When hotdesking gets introduced into corporate offices it tends to get a bad name from people losing their dedicated space. This is not what coworking spaces are like. When hotdesking is offered as a service in a coworking space, the dedicated desk is normally also offered along with a private office. Simply providing the flexibility.

Private Office Space:

Privacy
Many people like the idea of having a door which they can lock. If you are in an industry where you are dealing with highly confidential information, it provides a sense of security that you can lock your door. It also offers workers the advantage of escaping from the perceived peering eyes and ears around the office.

Increased productivity
The privacy of your own space allows people who typically lack attention when there are a few distractions around the opportunity to focus and concentrate on the task at hand. Without the distractions of other people on the phone, the sound of typing or watching people get up to make a cup of coffee can lead to greater productivity.

More space
A private office typically means more space. This may not be a big deal to many who only use their laptop, although can be a huge selling factor to those who need filing cabinets or a small desk to hold one-on-one meetings within their space.

You don’t feel part of a team
A private office can be quite lonely. When you get into your groove and just pump out content or numbers etc. you can forget where you are and the fact that people may be around you. You lock yourself in the office and don’t have the opportunity to take the time to collaborate or speak with like-minded people who may be around you.

Expense
A private office is typically more expensive than the other shared workspace options.
